Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 arrived in 2013 and like its predecessor, featured a mix of stealth and precision sniping.
This World War II set shooter received almost universally terrible reviews, but follow-up Sniper: Ghost Warrior was greeted a little more warmly in 2010. CIS launched a franchise in 2008 with Sniper: Art Of Victory. Titles like Call Of Duty and Hitman often feature sniping sections, while the Sniper Elite series - and its shockingly gory x-ray vision kills - have been a big hit. Sniping games have become a surprisingly popular genre too. There was also Clint Eastwood's American Sniper, a biopic about Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.
Its sort of a niche genre, however, encompassing the long-running Sniper movie series featuring Tom Berenger, Jude Law's Enemy At The Gates and Shooter, starring Mark Wahlberg. Sniper movies are a popular subgenre and stand in contrast to most action films, where its often about the hero waiting for the perfect shot instead of spraying bullets everywhere. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 literally opened up the world of the franchise - but sadly the gameplay misses the mark.
